Diabetic Eye Exam

If you have diabetes, we recommend a dilated diabetic eye exam at least once a year.

By having diabetes, you’re at a higher risk of developing conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and possibly even retinal detachment. Diabetes can be very harmful to your eyes if left untreated and ultimately result in the loss of vision entirely.

The O’Byrne Eye Clinic is now offering, as well as recommending, a new test specifically designed to provide data to aid in the screening of patients with risk factors for retinal diseases, like diabetes. This test is called the Diopsys Chromatic Flash Vision Screener which has been developed for eye care professionals to provide objective, quantitative measurements of retinal function. This protocol uses transient chromatic flash electroretinography (ERG) to measure the electrophysiological activity at the retina.

If you are a diabetic suspect or have any concerns, please do not hesitate to call our office so we can set up an appointment.
