Meet our experienced and friendly doctors and staff who make The O’Byrne Eye Clinic a proud provider of vision care products and ophthalmologic services on the Northshore and surrounding areas. 


Marilu O’Byrne, M.D.

Marilu O’Byrne is originally from New Orleans although she was born in Cali, Colombia, South America.  She received her medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in 1981.  Following her degree, she did her internship in Internal Medicine at Ochsner Foundation Hospital for one year.  She then did her residency in Ophthalmology at the LSU Eye Center from 1982 until 1985.  Dr. O’Byrne received her Board Certification of Ophthalmology in 1986.

Dr. O’Byrne worked alongside her Father “Alvaro O’Byrne” and Brother “Alvaro J. O’Byrne” in a private practice in New Orleans East for over 20 years until Hurricane Katrina devastated the area in 2005.  She then relocated the practice to St. Tammany Parish in 2006.  The O’Byrne Eye Clinic now has two locations: one in Mandeville and one in Slidell.  Our Mandeville address is 1580 W. Causeway Approach and our Slidell address is 2160 E. Gause Blvd. 

Dr. O’Byrne currently resides in New Orleans along with her husband and three children.  In her free time, Dr. O’Byrne enjoys cycling and spending time with her family. She is also fluent in Spanish and French.

Jennifer Vallelungo, M.D.

Jennifer Snow Vallelungo was born and raised in Covington, Louisiana.  She attended St. Scholastica Academy for high school.  She then went on to complete her undergraduate training in Biological Sciences at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.  She received her medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans in 2010. She also completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in 2011 followed by her residency training in Ophthalmology with the LSU/Ochsner program from 2011 to 2014.  She received her Board Certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology in 2016.

Dr. Vallelungo started her career as a faculty member for the LSU Ophthalmology program.  During this time she had the pleasure of training residents in both the clinical and surgical setting.  Although she has left her position with LSU, teaching remains a passion for her and she still gives lectures to the residents in her free time from her clinical duties. 

Dr. Vallelungo began working at O’Byrne Eye Clinic on a part time basis while she was employed with LSU and continued to do so until 2018 when she left her position with LSU to work at our clinic full time. 

She currently resides in Mandeville, LA with her husband and two children.  When she is not caring for patients, she enjoys spending her time with her family and friends.
