Fuch’s Epithelial Dystrophy

This is a disorder of the innermost layer of the cornea, the endothelium. It is typically found in people over 50 years old and can lead over many years to significant loss of vision. The endothelium pumped water out of cornea and keeps it clear. Once it fails to function, the cornea thick and blurry.

Initially the treatment involved the use of hypertonic saline eye drops and in its advanced stages can lead to a corneal transplant in order to restore vision.
